History

Paphos has some fantastic history behind it, and as a result, there are numerous sites and ancient attractions throughout the city. Perhaps the best attraction in the city is Acropolis, which is made up of ancient ruins and old buildings; it is situated near the new Paphos Lighthouse. Built in the second century, the Odeon is made of pure limestone. It is now used to stage musicals but that doesn't mean their value has diminished. Adonis bath is another important historical site. It is the love story of Aphrodite and Adonis. According to legend, Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love and Persephone, the Goddess of Underworld, loved Adonis. This led to a fight, Adonis was killed by Persephone. Upon hearing this, Aphrodite ran towards Adonis and while doing so she bled from her feet. The route through which Aphrodite ran and where blood dripped from her feet has caused lilies to grow. It is a important site for the locals of Paphos, and a stunning area.

Beaches

Paphos has some of the most gorgeous beaches in the whole of Cyprus, which is saying something. The most famous beach in Paphos is the Petra tou Romiou, where according to legend, this is Aphrodite's birthplace. This place has got a unique mythological and historical value, which makes it the most popular beach in Paphos. According to legend, it was here that Aphrodite emerged from the sea foam and it remains a very popular place for romantic couples. There are numerous other beaches in Paphos, such as the Pachyammos Beach, which is very popular with tourists, and has a blue flag status, meaning it is a clean beach and sea.
