Sunset at Paphos Harbour

Aerial view of Paphos

The birthplace and centre of worship of Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love and Beauty and the whole area retains some of this magic. Landmarks associated with Aphrodite are the chunky, rugged rocks of her beautiful birth shore known as the Aphrodite Rocks or "Petra tou omiou",the evocative sanctuary of Aphrodite at Kouklia Village, one-time shrine and scene of pagan festivals for thousands, the Baths of Aphrodite at Polis, supposed source of fertility and the Fountain of Love, or Fontana Amorosa, a few miles further into the Akamas Peninsula. Even the town's name is linked to the Goddess as Paphos was the name of the mythological daughter of Venus and Pygmalion.

The Area

Kato Paphos is central for exploring all areas, historic Tombs of the Kings, Aphrodites rock, Coral Bay, Zoo/bird park,  up into the mountains of Troodos, markets and designer shops, restaurants to suit all tastes including Chinese, Indiian, Mexican, English, Greek, Paphos Water Park, Diving, Water sports, Golf, quiet beaches, fishing harbours, family beaches.  Suiting all ages from small children to the older generation with plenty of sun, sun and more sun.

So whether just wanting to relax by the pool, tour all the areas by car, walk around the shops and markets, or go down to the beach and visit the water park and zoo, there is plenty of choice to do what you want to do.

Carol and Alan Wilkinson.

We live in a small place called Earby in Lancashire it is near Barnoldswick and about 7 miles from Skipton in North Yorkshire, with daughter Amber, dog Rex, cat Dusty, guinea pig Snowy, goldfish Fiona.

We bought the apartment in Cyprus as we love the island, the people are very friendly, english is spoken throughout and the sun shines 340 days of the year. Some of the other things we like about Cyprus is that they drive on the left just like us Brits, so when hiring a car it is very easy to drive.  The electrical sockets are all 3 pin also, so no need for any adaptors.

Since going over to Euros in January 2008 everything has transferred smoothly and prices are competitive for eating out (full English breakfast for around 1.50 euros for example). Evening menus include set 3 courses for around 10 Euros with a free aperitif at the end.

The area where our apartment is based is Kato Paphos. This is central for exploring the region. Many people enjoy the Harbour where a redevelopment programme was completed in May 2008.  The Harbour area has been pedestrianised and shops and restaurants revamped.  There are many boats and yachts moored with restaurants overlooking. From the harbour area with its historic Turkish Fort there is a gorgeous walk around the headland (again newly paved) to a pleasant beach bar adjacent to Tombs of the Kings area. The paved walkway extends along the coast to Chlorakas and beyond the sea on one side and the Hotels, Bars, Restaurants and gardens on the other, along a pleasant tree lined area.

We have had a very good response from people going over to our apartment for holidays from one or two weeks onwards.  In November 2007 Maureen and Gordon Newhouse from Warrington came to our apartment for a long term Winter let until the end of April 2008.  They wrote to us telling us how they enjoyed themselves and have become yet another recommendation, complimenting us on our apartment layount, furnishings etc. They enjoyed the locality so much that they have decided to lease a bungalow for a further 12 months!  to explore Paphos and Cyprus even more. Over the last few years we have had very good feedback from our guests from young couples to families and the older generation.

Nice to get good feedback - we endeavour to ensure that the trend will continue.
